"Dave Donaldson didn't win a blue ribbon ....with his painting of Bogey's Restaurant, but he nonetheless emerged as the hero of heroes if not the star of stars in the festive Paint San Clemente free-for-all that rocked the town the last week in June. ....BeachFire Bar & Grill put on a bottomless supply of steak, barbecued breast of chicken, a ton of award-winning fresh jumbo shrimp, several salads, fresh fruit and a fried platains dessert to dazzle the 400-plus crowd that attended the July 1 Paint San Clemente Awards Gala. Thanks to Dave's generous participation and contribution, nearly all the $25 per proceeds from the coloful evening went to the sponsoring San Clemente Art Association's terrific scholarship program for our school kids of all ages. Besides the BeachFire's amazing buffet, it was also Dave's enthusiasm, energy and overall support of the SCAA that earned him his No. 1 Hero medal. ....What a time it is for Dave, his wife Allison, and their two daughters Paige and Isabel. His BeachFire turned four only last month, he recently opened a second BeachFire in Ladera Ranch, and now the "new" Bogey's is soon to join the stable. Many have already credited the lively BeachFire.....as being one of the key inspirations along with ever-booming Carbonara's that has sparked up the just beginning to bloom and blossom renaissance of all of old downtown.... They found a home in San Clemente as well as his dream come true, and he says he, Allison, Paige and Isabel are here to stay. Lucky us."
